This Day in TV History – May 24th, 2000 – Star Trek: Voyager’s “Unimatrix Zero, Part I” Airs

It’s another round with The Borg in an episode of Voyager that first aired on this day in television history.

“Unimatrix Zero, Part I” is the 26th episode and 6th season finale of Star Trek: Voyager. Written by Brannon Braga and Joe Menosky (with story by Mike Sussman), it first aired on May 24th, 2000 on UPN.

In the episode, Seven of Nine discovers a special realm inhabited by Borg drones while they regenerate known as Unimatrix Zero. There, unlike when the drones are active, they are individuals, and hoping to keep this individuality throughout. Seven gets the crew of Voyager involved in a mission to liberate these drones, which could also lay a crippling blow to one of their most dangerous foes.

“Unimatrix Zero” features the return of the Borg Queen to Voyager, played again by Susanna Thompson, who played the role in Voyager’s 5th season episode, “Dark Frontier.” The events of the episode would be resolved in the 7th season premiere the following October.
