A unique Nintendo shooter celebrates its three-year anniversary today.
Splatoon, developed and published by Nintendo, was released in North America on May 29th, 2015 exclusively for the WiiU.
The game is focused on multiplayer, where teams of characters that can transform from human-like form to squid-like form try to control a stage. To do so, they must cover their map with a greater amount of ink than the other team. In the ink, players are faster and can use special powers, as well. Although the game is focused on multiplayer, a single-player campaign is also available.
Since its release, the game has received many new weapons, maps, and costumes as downloadable content. It was a big hit around the world, selling millions of copies. It has spawned numerous pieces of fan art, and has a thriving online community to this day. A sequel was released for the Nintendo Switch, and it was recently confirmed that characters from the series would appear in the next version of Super Smash Bros.
