The episode wraps up a multi-episode arc that concluded the seventh season as the Federation, allied now with the Cardassians, Klingons, Romulans and more, prepare to finally defeat the evil Dominion once and for all.

The episode concluded the run of Deep Space Nine. Although there have been no further episodes, specials or movies produced focusing on the characters, the tales of Deep Space Nine have continued in a series of non-canon novels.
