He’s an icon of video gaming, one of the most recognized characters in the medium outside of Mario and Pac-Man, and sixteen years ago, a major game in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise was released.
That game was Sonic Adventure 2, released on June 18th, 2001 for the Sega Dreamcast. Developed by Sonic Team USA and published by Sega, he game allowed the player to control heroes like Sonic or Tails or villains like Dr. Robotnik or villains like the new Shadow the Hedgehog.
Sonic Adventure 2 also including multiplayer modes, as well as an expanded Chao virtual pet mode.
The game received positive reviews, but would the last main Sonic game on a Sega system before the company began making games for other companies like Sony and Nintendo.
Sonic Adventure 2 would later have an enhanced version released for the Nintendo GameCube, the first time Sonic appeared on a Nintendo system after the big rivalry of the 90s.
