This Day in Video Game History – August 16th, 2005 – Sonic Gems Collections Released

A collection of some more obscure titles from the popular Sonic franchise was released on the GameCube on this day in history.

Sonic Gems Collection was released for the Nintendo GameCube in North America on August 16th, 2005 and published by Sega.

Some of the games featured in the collection include:

* Sonic R – Originally released for the Saturn and PC, this is an on-foot racing game featuring Sonic and other characters from the series. The game was notable for its soundtrack of fully-vocalized songs composed by Richard Jacques and sung by TJ Davis.
* Sonic CD – Originally released for the Sega CD (and later PC), this side-scrolling platformer is unique for its time-travel elements.
* Sonic the Fighters – An arcade exclusive, this 3D fighter gets its first home release in Gems Collection, where players can battle it out as characters like Sonic, Tails, Amy Rose and more.

The collection also includes six Sonic Game Gear games including Sonic 2, Triple Trouble, Spinball, Sonic Drift 2, Tails’ Skypatrol and Tails’ Adventure. The game also featured some extras like artwork and the Genesis Vectorman titles.
