The beloved classic video game franchise Bomberman is re-imagined in a drastically different way ten years ago today.

Bomberman: Act Zero, developed by Hudson Soft and published by Konami, was released for the Microsoft Xbox 360 on August 29th, 2006.

The basic style of Bomberman gameplay remains the same in Act Zero–players control their characters in an maze-like arena, attempting to attack players and clear obstacles through the use of various types of bombs.

The game drastically re-imagines the series, changing the colorful and cartoon-style graphics of other games to a dark, dystopian setting.

This, along with other technical issues and lack of variety in the gameplay, led to strong criticism from professional critics and regular gamers alike.
