“Flashback” is the 2nd episode of the 3rd season of Star Trek: Voyager. Written by Brannon Braga and directed by David Livingston, it first aired on UPN on September 11th, 1996.

In the episode, an unusual anomaly in space seemingly triggers a medical condition in Tuvok—one that could be related to a repressed memory. So, he and Captain Janeway mindmeld to explore that memory: involving his time serving generations prior on the Federation Starship Excelsior.

This episode, one of two episodes to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the enduring science fiction franchise, features original Star Trek TV and movie cast member George Takei reprising his role as Hikaru Sulu. The events seen here are set during the sixth Trek feature film, The Undiscovered Country. Grace Lee Whitney also reprises her role as Janice Rand in the episode, and the bridge and other sets from Excelsior are recreated the match their appearance in that sixth film.
