“Showdown in Pewter City” is the 5th episode of the Pokemon anime to air in the US. It made its debut on TV on September 14th, 1998.

In this early episode, Ash and Misty make it to Pewter City. Ash is determined to win his first gym badge of of his adventure, but loses on his first attempt. But, he’s not giving up, and finds help from an unexpected source.

At the end of the episode, Brock joins Ash and Misty on his journey. Brock, voiced for the first eight seasons by Eric Stuart, would become a popular character in the series. In fact, after he left the series in Season 2, he was brought back for many more seasons after that. He’s known for his rock Pokemon, cooking skills, healing skills, and love of the women all across the Pokemon world.
