A game that combined real-time strategic combat with the popular Legend of Zelda universe was released two years ago today.
Hyrule Warriors, developed by Omega Force and Team Ninja and published by Nintendo, was released exclusively for the WiiU on September 26th, 2014 in North America. This came after a release in Japan a month prior.
The game features the style of gameplay seen in the long-running Dynasty Warriors series. A player controls a character and uses a variety of weapons against swarms of enemies (and occasionally bosses) across a wide map. When certain conditions are met, a portion of the map is given to the player’s control.
These characters include many from Nintendo’s extremely-successful The Legend of Zelda series, each with weapons and moves based on a variety of games in the series. A wide variety of downloadable content adding new characters, weapons, and more was released throughout the years following its release.
A portable version, featuring downgraded graphics but some new content, was released for Nintendo’s 3DS handheld in 2016 called Hyrule Warriors Legends.
