A mission to the Mir space station was launched 25 years ago today.

Soyuz TM-13 was launched on October 2nd, 1991. The manned mission took a Soviet cosmonaut along with ones from Kazakhstan and Austria into space.

The mission took the three to the Russian Mir space station, where they conducted a variety of scientific experiments and missions. Uniquely, the 175-day mission was launched with the Soviet Union still existed, and ended after it had collapsed.
