A film that many consider one of the worst ever made was released on this day in history.
Troll 2 was written by Drake Floyd (with story by Floyd and Rossella Drudi) and directed by Floyd. It was released in the United States on October 12th, 1990.
In the film, which combines elements of comedy and horror, a family who is staying in a town named Nilbog (see what that spells backwards) finds that the people there are not what they seem and could threaten their very lives.
The extremely low budget film–estimated to be made for less than a quarter of a million dollars–has since become infamous as one of the worst ever. Aside from the small budget, the film is known for the unusual way the actors deliver their dialogue. According to behind-the-scenes reports, many of those actors had little experience as well. Because of this, certain scenes from the film have become memes online, and many online critics and reviewers have riffed on the film as well.
Ironically, Troll 2 does not contain any trolls, but instead features goblins. It is also not related to the original Troll movie, except in name only.
A documentary on the film, called Best Worst Movie, was directed by one of the stars of the film and released in 2009.
