“Luna Eclipsed” is the 4th episode of the 2nd season of the animated series, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Written by M.A. Larson and directed by James Wootton, it first aired on the Hub network on October 22nd, 2011.

In the episode, Princess Luna returns to Ponyville on Nightmare Night, a celebration of the legend of Nightmare Moon–Luna’s sinister form before she was freed by the Mane 6. She tries to fit in with her subjects, but finds it’s not easy to do so–even for a princess!

The episode featured a slightly redesigned version of Luna as compared to the pilot, voiced by Tabitha St. Germain. Luna became a fan favorite character, and the subject of numerous fanfictions, fan art and more. Luna would return as a guest star and supporting character off and on through future episodes of the series.
