“Lonely Among Us” is the 7th episode of the 1st season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Written by D.C. Fontana (with story by Michael Halperin) and directed by Cliff Bole, it first aired in syndication on November 2nd, 1987.

In the episode, the Enterprise is transporting delegates for two alien races who have a vert adversarial relationship. Meanwhile, an unusual object is encountered by the ship and seems to cause memory loss in some of the crewmembers. Soon, it seems that Captain Picard is affected when he begins to act strangely, causing the crew to wonder if he should stay in command of the Federation’s flagship.

Fontana, who penned the script for the episode, wrote many beloved episodes for the original Star Trek series as well. Colm Meaney, who would later become the long-running Chief O’Brien on TNG and Deep Space Nine makes his second appearance in this episode. Speaking of Deep Space Nine, Marc Alaimo made an appearance in this episode as well. He would later be best known for the role of Gul Dukat.
