This Day in Television History – November 18th, 1998 – Star Trek: Voyager’s “Timeless” Airs

The only surviving crewmembers of Voyager work to change history to bring their colleagues back to life.

“Timeless” is the 100th episode of Star Trek: Voyager, the sixth of the 5th season of the show. It was written Brannon Braga and Joe Menosky, with story by Braga, Menosky, and Rick Berman.

The episode opens with an image of the Federation Starship Voyager frozen under ice on a distant planet. Chakotay and Harry Kim are onboard the frozen remains of the ship. We find out that they survived on the Delta Flyer while the rest of the crew died while trying a new engine in an attempt to get back to friendly space. Now, the two hope to change history to get Voyager home safely in one piece by changing history.

The episode was directed by LeVar Burton, who played Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Burton also reprises his role here as the Captain of the Galaxy-class USS Challenger. The episode follows up on the quantum slipstream drive introduced in the 4th season finale, “Hope and Fear.” The episode is notable for the flashback sequence of Voyager crashing into the ice.
