In the episode, Bart is originally disappointed with his birthday gift of a microphone that can transmit through the radio. But, things turn around when he finds he can play pranks with it! And, that includes the ultimate prank–convincing all of Springfield that a young boy named Timmy has been trapped down a well.

In a parody of “We Are the World,” Sting (voiced by himself) appears in the episode as part of a song raising awareness for “Timmy.”
