This Day in TV History – February 6th, 1995 – Star Trek: Voyager’s “Phage” Airs

An episode of Star Trek: Voyager introducing an alien adversary that harvests organs to try to save their own debuted on this day in television history.

“Phage” was the fifth episode of the debut season of Star Trek: Voyager. It first aired on February 6th, 1995 on the United Paramount Network. The episode’s screenplay was written by Brannon Braga and Skye Dent, with story by Timothy De Hass.

In the episode, an away team finds a mysterious cave, but Neelix is attacked while on the mission. His lungs have been removed. As the crew of Voyager tries to find those responsible for this attack, they discover a race of aliens with a unique motivation for their act. The Vidiians are battling a deadly disease and feel they must harvest the organs of those healthy to survive.

The Vidiians would appear multiple times through the first few seasons of the show.
