This Day in Television History – February 22nd, 1988 – Star Trek: The Next Generation’s “Home Soil” Airs

The crew of the Enterprise encounter a very unique form of life in an episode that aired on this day in television history.

“Home Soil” is the 18th episode of the 1st season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Written by Robert Sabaroff (with story by Karl Guers, Ralph Sanchez, and Sabaroff) and directed by Corey Allen, it first aired on February 22nd, 1988.

In the episode, the crew of the Enterprise-D checks in on a terraforming project that is a bit behind. When the station itself seems to attack some of the crew, they find the source is something that could actually be a unique form of life, and it could even threaten the Enterprise when it is taken aboard for study.
