This Day in Video Game History – March 13th, 2015 – Code Name: S.T.E.A.M. Released for Nintendo 3DS

A unique strategy game involving the Civil War era, aliens, and steampunk technology was released 2 years ago today.

Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., developed by Intelligent Systems and Nintendo SPD and published by Nintendo, was released exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS on March 13th, 2015.

The game is a turn-based strategy game set in an alternate 19th century involving the world being attacked by aliens as President Lincoln, Queen Victoria, Lion from Wizard of Oz, and others team up to battle them with advanced steampunk technology. They help make up the Strike Team Eliminated the Alien Menace (or S.T.E.A.M.). Players make their moves and plot out their attacks in their turn.

The game got mixed to positive reviews, ranging from 3.5 and 4 out of 10 in publications like Polygon and Gamespot (the latter being updated to 6 after an option to fastforward past enemy turns was offered) to an 8 from Gametrailers and 7.9 from IGN.
