This Day in Television History – April 1st, 1990 – Wrestlemania VI Pay-Per-View Airs

The sixth Wrestlemania for the former World Wrestling Federation aired on this day in history.

Wrestlemania VI is the sixth of the iconic professional wrestling pay-per-view series of the WWE, formerly the WWF. It aired on April 1st, 1990.

The event featured over a dozen matches, including a singles match with the heavyweight Earthquake taking on Hercules, a mixed tag-team-match featuring Dusty Rhodes versus Randy Savage backed by their female supporters, and the Ultimate Warrior taking on Hulk Hogan in the main match for two championship belts. Those two were among the most popular wrestlers in the company at that time.

Over 65,000 attended the event, which took place at the SkyDome in Toronto, Canada. This was the first Wrestlemania to take place in another country besides the US. It would be the last Wrestlemania for Jesse Ventura to be a commentator as well.
