This Day in Television History – April 2nd, 1989 – Wrestlemania V Pay-Per-View Airs

The fifth Wrestlemania for the former World Wrestling Federation aired on this day in history.

Wrestlemania V is the fifth of the iconic professional wrestling pay-per-view series of the WWE, formerly the WWF. It aired on April 2nd, 1989.

The event featured over a dozen matches, including a singles match between Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Andre the Giant, a tag team match with Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart vs. The Honky Tonk Man and Greg Valentine. The championship and headlining match was between two of the most popular wrestlers of the time, Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage.

The event took place at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, drawing a crowd of nearly 19,000. It was the same venue as the previous fourth Wrestlemania.
