This Day in TV History – April 29th, 1991 – Star Trek: The Next Generation’s “The Drumhead” Airs

 A conspiracy is suspected aboard the Enterprise in a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode that first aired on this day in television history.

“The Drumhead” is the 21st episode of the 4th season of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Written by Jeri Taylor, it first aired on April 29th, 1991 in syndication.

An explosion in Engineering occurs while a Klingon exchange officer is on the Enterprise. A retired admiral is brought onboard to uncover what is suspected to be a conspiracy.

The episode is notable for being the last with an orchestral score provided by Ron Jones, who had provided music for the show through the first four seasons. It was also directed by Jonathan Frakes, who played Commander William T. Riker in the series.
